The Advisory and Self-Assessment Committee is an internal Department structure with advisory and proposal functions. The Committee is responsible for assisting the Department bodies in policies concerning the allocation of resources and in guiding research, knowledge transfer and innovation activities. The DIEF Advisory and Self-Assessment Committee is appointed by the Department Board upon proposal of the Head of Department, after consulting the Section Coordinators; it serves for four years. It consists of 5 professors and researchers from the Department and may be supplemented by up to 3 additional experts from national, international or foreign research institutions, with expertise and active involvement in research fields related to the Scientific Disciplinary Sectors for which the Department is responsible. These experts participate in meetings without voting rights.

Permanent or temporary Committees may be established by the Department Board through a specific resolution defining their composition and duties. The Department Board may make use of the preparatory work or advisory activities of specific temporary or permanent Committees, including for the examination of specific issues identified from time to time. Where necessary, experts who are not members of the Department Board and who are appointed by the Board may also participate in the work of the Committees without voting rights.

Function: to define forms of cooperation, strategies and actions to be pursued in the field of the Department's internationalisation, both in teaching and research.

Function: to ensure, with the support of the offices of the Research Services Area, the flow of information relevant to the Department, making a substantial contribution to improving the position of our University in the context of competitive national, European and international research calls.

Function: to promote and coordinate activities aimed at non-academic audiences through which to communicate and disseminate the opportunities and benefits of university education and research results.

Function: to promote and enhance research results, fostering the creation of a bridge between academic research and industry.

Function: to coordinate the Department's self-assessment procedure and the collection of the indicators required for the annual periodic evaluation that ANVUR plans to use also for the allocation of part of the performance-based share of the Ordinary Financing Fund (FFO).

Function: to support, coordinate and monitor the entry of research outputs by the Department's professors and researchers.

Function: to identify areas for improvement in the position of the University of Florence in international rankings, in coordination with the University's Statistics Office, the Vice-Rector for International Relations and the Research Observatory.

Function: to act as a liaison between the University Quality Assurance Presidium and the Department in implementing Quality Assurance policies within the Department with regard to teaching, research and knowledge enhancement.
