Experimental Mechanics Laboratory

The Experimental Mechanics Research Group, coordinated by Prof. Dario Vangi, carries out research in two thematic areas.  The first, supported by the Experimental Mechanics Laboratory, focuses on assessing the mechanical behaviour of components and structures, on material testing, and on non-destructive testing.
The second, supported by the Laboratory for Road Safety and Accident Investigation (LaSIS), has been conducting research since 2000 in the field of road accident reconstruction, experimental studies on the crash behaviour of two- and four-wheeled vehicles and vulnerable road users, the development of vehicles for urban electric micromobility, and studies on driver assistance and autonomous driving systems. LaSIS represents a national and international reference point in the field of road safety and accident investigation.

The research activities are carried out within European, national, and local projects involving the main stakeholders active in the field of transport safety, including companies, research centres, universities, and associations.
