The group has gained several years of experience in the field of materials design and characterization, with particular focus on the development of functional coatings and surface treatments. Regarding these aspects of material science and technology the main research areas concern, or have concerned, the optimization of coatings and anticorrosion treatments on metallic materials; the surface modification of stainless steels to improve their corrosion and wear resistance; the development of materials and methods for additive manufacturing, and the deposition of thin and thick films with antibacterial or superhydrophobic properties and for aerospace and energy applications.
