Human–Robot Interaction and Motion Analysis Laboratory

The Human–Robot Interaction and Motion Analysis Laboratory is an advanced research infrastructure dedicated to the experimental study of human behavior, interaction with robotic systems, and multimodal motion analysis in assistive, clinical, and real-world contexts. The laboratory integrates social and collaborative robots, motion capture systems, wearable sensors, and physiological data acquisition platforms with advanced data analysis methodologies and artificial intelligence, enabling both controlled studies and long-term experimentation in laboratory settings as well as in real application environments.

The laboratory is equipped with a Motion Capture Room (BTS system with 8+2 cameras and a 16-channel EMG system) for three-dimensional motion and human kinematics analysis, supporting research on gait analysis, motor coordination, muscle activation, and motor synergy identification. The facility provides access to humanoid and companion robots (Unitree H1-2, Pepper, NAO, Ricky2, TIAGo++, etc.) as well as collaborative robotic platforms (Flexiv Rizon 4s, Kinova 7-DoF, UR5, etc.) for studies on interaction, cooperation, and assistance, including applications in social interaction, cognitive support, and robotic mediation. In addition, the laboratory features a comprehensive set of wearable sensors and biomedical devices, including IMU, EMG, EEG, and physiological sensors, as well as continuous monitoring systems (Movella, Shimmer, Brain Products, and other wearable technologies), enabling motor, cognitive, and emotional assessment in longitudinal studies. To support rapid prototyping activities, the laboratory is integrated with a dedicated area for additive manufacturing and electronics, allowing the design and development of custom components, smart objects, and experimental devices.
